Story Highlights
------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------
1. The SaaS Approach to Web Site Vulnerability Management
------------------------------------------------------------
Securing Web applications is the No. 1 problem facing security
professionals today. With 162 million Web sites in existence and
millions more popping up each month, the sheer size of the problem is
staggering -- not to mention the fact that nine out of 10 Web sites have
serious vulnerabilities that can put critical customer data at risk.

2. The New Captain at Sage's Helm
------------------------------------------------------------
I sometimes forget about the fact that people are trying to do business
and that their business is top of mind -- not CRM. That point was
brought home to me last week when I was on-site with a client. I won't
give too many details, but the company has no CRM per se, just some
spreadsheets they use for forecasting, a customer database shared with
ERP and a few other databases written in a PC programming tool.

3. The Big, Bad Brand of Bollywood
------------------------------------------------------------
There is really nothing wrong with the brand "Bollywood," except that
the Indian film industry has become far more powerful and far-reaching
than anything else like this in any other country of the world, and even
larger than Hollywood. In hindsight, decades ago, who in their right
mind would have picked such a blatant knockoff as "Bollywood" -- so
clearly a cheap copy of Hollywood?

4. The H-1B Visa Dilemma, Part 1: A Broken System
------------------------------------------------------------
The disconnect has never been more pronounced between the supply and
demand of H-1B visas, the visa program that allows guest workers in the
United States. The technology industry has been at the forefront of the
H-1B visa debate, lobbying for the government to allow more foreign
workers into the U.S. each year.

5. Sony Posts Q4 Profit, Eyes Weaker Year Ahead
------------------------------------------------------------
Sony punctuated its recovery by swinging to a profit for the January-
March quarter from a loss a year ago on its way to a record performance
for the fiscal year as it reduced losses from its PlayStation 3 video
game business. Strong sales of flat panel TVs and digital cameras also
helped nearly triple annual profit compared with the previous financial
year, the company said Wednesday.

6. EarthLink Gives Up Philly WiFi Stake, Officials Cheesed Off
------------------------------------------------------------
EarthLink is pulling the plug on its troubled wireless high-speed
Internet network in Philadelphia, once touted as a national model.
EarthLink, which pinned its future on municipal WiFi networks following
rapid declines in its dial-up Internet access business, said Tuesday
that it could not find a buyer for the $17 million network.

7. British Agency Shifts Microsoft Antitrust Complaint to EC
------------------------------------------------------------
A British government agency has complained to the European Commission
about the lack of interoperability in some of Microsoft's applications,
but regulators are reportedly not opening a new formal inquiry on the
complaint. The British Educational Communications and Technology Agency
filed the complaint with the UK's Office of Fair Trading last October,
citing two issues.

8. HP Elbows In on IBM's Turf With $13.9B EDS Buy
------------------------------------------------------------
HP is placing a $13.9 billion bet that it can wrest a piece of the tech
services outsourcing market from IBM. It has announced it will acquire
EDS for that sum. "The combination of HP and EDS will create a leading
force in global IT services," said HP CEO Mark Hurd in announcing the
proposed acquisition.

9. Dell to Downplay XPS to Give Alienware Breathing Room
------------------------------------------------------------
Dell has reportedly decided to scrub several models in its high-end line
of XPS PCs. The computer maker is turning away from the XPS machines to
limit competition with its Alienware systems, according to a Tuesday
report. Dell acquired Alienware back in March 2006 but allowed the
gaming PC maker to continue to operate independently and sell its brand
of high-end computers.

10. Breaches Make a Mockery of PCI Security Standards
------------------------------------------------------------
The restaurant-slash-arcade-slash-bar Dave & Buster's is the latest U.S.
outlet to suffer a breach of its credit card processing system. Hackers
based in Ukraine and Estonia -- assisted by a guy in Miami -- installed
packet sniffer malware at the point of sale systems in several D&B
outlets.

11. HBO Swings iTunes Deal With Some Premium Pricing
------------------------------------------------------------
Leave it to the network that brought us Tony Soprano to break Apple's
iTunes video pricing model. The Time Warner subsidiary and Apple on
Tuesday announced that some HBO programming is now available at the
online store, with a few shows priced at $2.99 per episode. Apple is
selling episodes of "The Sopranos," "Deadwood" and "Rome" for $2.99
each.
