Story Highlights
------------------------------------------------------------

------------------------------------------------------------
1. IBM's Steve Sams: Taking a Swipe at Data Center Energy Consumption
------------------------------------------------------------

Steve Sams, IBM vice president for site and facilities services
worldwide, is waging a war against energy-hogging data centers
worldwide. He will carry his assault to the Computer Measurement Group's
international conference later this year. CMG is a not-for-profit,
worldwide organization of IT professionals.

2. The Skinny on Linux for Thin Client Computing
------------------------------------------------------------

Technology moves at a lightning-fast pace. A brand new desktop computer
has an average lifespan of two to five years, after which both its
hardware and its software have become obsolete. For businesses and other
organizations, this poses a significant challenge as they attempt to
keep their IT purchasing budgets down while simultaneously trying to
keep their infrastructures up to date.

3. Searching for the Killer iPhone App
------------------------------------------------------------

Apple won't crank up the hype machine about all the new things an iPhone
can do until its Worldwide Developers Conference on June 9, but here's a
small taste of what's in store: finding things to do in the neighborhood
when you're at a loss. That's the idea behind Pelago, the first company
funded by Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers as part of the $100 million
iFund.

4. Out of This World Outhouse Out of Order
------------------------------------------------------------

Astronauts are asked one question more than any other: "How do you go to
the bathroom in space?" Never has the query been more timely. Houston,
the international space station has a potty problem. According to a
report Tuesday on NASA TV, the orbiting platform's main lavatory -- in
NASA-speak, the "vacuum urine collection device" -- hasn't worked since
late last week.

5. Via Open Sources Blueprints for Mini Notebook
------------------------------------------------------------

Chipmaker Via Technologies took the wrapper of its OpenBook Mini-Note
reference design Tuesday, making the blueprint for its latest ultra
mobile PC available to anyone who wants to manufacture low-cost
computers based on Via's line of low-power processors. The open source,
computer-assisted design files are available for free under the Creative

------------------------------------------------------------

Adobe's next generation of Creative Suite graphic design, Web

8. MS: Smartphone Adoption Could Push Windows Mobile Sales 50 Percent
------------------------------------------------------------

Microsoft believes it can grow the market for its Windows Mobile
operating system by at least 50 percent in each of the next two years as
the market for smartphones explodes globally. The company could sell as
many as 20 million copies of Windows Mobile during the soon-to-end
fiscal year, almost double the 11 million it shipped last year, Eddie
Wu, Microsoft's managing director of OEM embedded devices in Asia,
reportedly said.

around its API, which it launched just a year ago.

Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia can officially get their hands on Apple's

------------------------------------------------------------

After pulling off a long-shot landing on Mars on Sunday night, the team
behind the Phoenix mission will spend the next few days making sure its
equipment is ready to begin searching for the raw ingredients necessary
to support life on the planet. The landing of NASA's Phoenix spacecraft
marked the first time in 32 years that the space agency has delivered a
