Story Highlights
------------------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------
1. Better Tech Support in 3 Easy Steps, Part 1
------------------------------------------------------------
I have been managing the technical support team at Journyx, a timesheet
software company, for about 7 years. When I began, we were hemorrhaging
angry customers, but now we haven't received a legitimate customer
complaint in years. Since my experience was in sales and retail
management, the first thing I did was ask the CEO and VP of sales what
they wanted from the tech support team.

2. Opinion: Genetic Info Law: A Civil Rights Victory?
------------------------------------------------------------
Last week, President Bush signed into law the Genetic Information
Nondiscrimination Act, or GINA, which will protect individuals from
employer and insurance discrimination based on the results of high-tech
gene tests. Fighting discrimination is a good idea, but the lack of
opposition to GINA points to some potentially serious problems.

3. Mac Bloggers Investigate iPhone Design, Talk Trade-Ins
------------------------------------------------------------
In Apple news this week, the iPhone frenzy continues ... or perhaps it's
just getting started. The company continues to snag partners left and
right all over the globe ahead of the next-generation 3G iPhone, which a
lot of Apple watchers predict will be announced June 9 at the Apple
Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco.

4. Sony Rolly: Big Price for a Little Amusement
------------------------------------------------------------
For years, Sony has been scrambling to regain its position at the
leading edge of music players. Now, that scrambling has produced an egg
-- a $399 dancing egg that flashes, rolls and flaps its plastic flippers
to the beat. Before you think the Walkman pioneer has finally cracked,
it's worth noting that the Rolly is an amusing and somewhat educational
robot whose moves can be programed using a PC.

5. Voting 2.0, Part 2: The Open Source Proposition
------------------------------------------------------------
Even as the presidential elections draw ever nearer, debate rages about
the technologies used to enable the voting process. It's too late for
any large systematic changes to be implemented for this year, said
Matthew Zimmerman, senior staff attorney with the Electronic Frontier
Foundation.

6. Qualcomm Tosses Adobe Flash Into the BREW
------------------------------------------------------------
Qualcomm and Adobe Systems are bringing Flash-based applications to
Qualcomm's BREW mobile platform. The two companies jointly announced
their plans at Qualcomm's BREW conference in San Diego on Thursday.
Flash support will make it much easier for Flash developers to deliver
rich Internet applications and content to mass market handset devices.

7. Google Sets Its Sights on Web App Domination
------------------------------------------------------------
In a demonstration of its efforts to bridge the chasm between Web-based
applications and client, or native, applications, Google announced
changes to its Google Earth 3-D mapping software as well as Google Gears
Wednesday at its annual I/O software developer's conference in San
Francisco. For webmasters, Google launched its new Google Earth Browser
Plug-In, which can be embedded within a Web site.

8. Zuckerberg Won't Be Microsoft's Monkey Boy
------------------------------------------------------------
Selling Facebook to Microsoft would not be the best way to fulfill its
mission of enabling people to connect with one another, said Mark
Zuckerberg, founder and CEO of the social network. During the D6: All
Things Digital conference in Carlsbad, Calif., Zuckerberg was asked
whether he would consider selling if Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer offered
$15 billion for the network.

9. Google Marches Android Onstage for Show and Tell
------------------------------------------------------------
Google reportedly took a moment to show off a prototype mobile phone
based on its Android operating system at the Google I/O conference in
San Francisco Wednesday. Android is Google's open source, Linux-based
mobile phone OS, middleware stack and software development platform.
Android has the backing of the Open Handset Alliance, a consortium of
hardware, software and telecom companies.

10. Scientists Cook Up Nano Noodles
------------------------------------------------------------
Japanese scientists say they have used cutting-edge technology to create
a noodle bowl so small it can be seen only through a microscope.
Mechanical engineering professor Masayuki Nakao said Thursday he and his
students at the University of Tokyo used a carbon-based material to
produce a noodle bowl with a diameter 1/25,000 of an inch in a project
aimed at developing nanotube-processing technology.
